Netflix's library might contain notable highlights from other studios, but HBO Max offers tons of amazing films from Warner Bros' own back catalog. Max is stuffed with plenty of critically-acclaimed and highly-rated movies. Is there a Max free trial?ĭune: Part One is one of the many movie highlights available on Max. We'll update this section once we learn more. WBD has also promised that existing subscribers "will still have access to their current plan features for a minimum of six months following launch" – good news in the short term, though it could mean pricing changes are possible later this year. You'll need to head to the Max providers page to see if you're eligible, however. If you're subscribed to HBO through your cable or satellite TV package, internet plan, or wireless plan, the Max home page explains that users may have access to Max at no extra cost. However, Discovery Plus is available in the UK, so some negotiations may be required between WBD, Sky, and BT Group (the latter being Discovery Plus's UK distribution partner) to ensure there's no contractual law-breaking over who can air what. These licensing agreements aren't expected to end until sometime in 2025, so it's likely that WBD's HBO Max-based contracts with Sky and Foxtel will simply be transferred over to Max. In the UK and Australia, for example, HBO-developed movies and TV shows air on Sky and Foxtel respectively. It's unclear how the renaming of WBD's primary streamer will impact the deals it has with nations where Max/HBO Max aren't available. So, if you're a non-US HBO Max customer, you don't need to worry about any big changes yet. Users in Latin America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions – where HBO Max is available, by the way – won't notice any name change until Q3 2023, Q1 2024, and Q2 2024 respectively (per Variety). Currently, HBO Max has only been rebranded to Max in the United States. This is where things get slightly more complicated. House of the Dragon's first season is available on Max. Additionally, your HBO Max downloads and Custom Profile Pictures do not carry over onto the new service, so you'll need to redownload the former and pick a different avatar for the latter. You will, though, need to download the Max app on your device of choice (more on these later) or head to Max.com to begin streaming via a web browser. Your HBO Max profile, watch history, and settings (including parental controls) are carried over to WBD's latest streamer, too. That means don't need to worry about cancelling your current plan and signing up to a new one. Here are some of the other big benefits that the new service offers over its predecessor:Ĭrucially, if you were already subscribed to HBO Max before May 23 (Max's launch day), your account should have been automatically switched over to the new service. Not only do you gain access to all of HBO Max's library (including every DCEU film and TV show, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, and more), you'll also be able to stream the best programs from Discovery Plus' TV brands, including TLC, Magnolia Network, and HGTV. In essence, then, Max is a bigger and more streamlined streaming service than its siblings. and Discovery merged in March 2022, confirmed in April 2023 that it was combining the platforms into a single entity. It's worth noting, however, that Discovery Plus is still available as a separate service. The entertainment behemoth, which itself was formed when Warner Bros. Max is the product of a merging between HBO Max and Discovery Plus, the two streaming platforms owned by Warner Bros. Max combines the very best of HBO Max and Discovery Plus. Max is already here – read on to make sure you’ve got all the facts before you log in. Below we’ll answer all these questions and more, but if you're looking for extra depth, check out our helpful seven things HBO Max fans need to know about the new streamer guide. But Max is more than just a rebranding exercise, because the platform has added content from Discovery Plus to a library already brimming with the sort of quality we’ve come to expect from Warner Bros – a company that boasts DC, HBO and a century’s worth of movies and TV under its vast umbrella.īeyond that expanded list of things to watch, you’re probably wondering how Max differs from its predecessor – as well as how much it costs, whether it’s possible to stream in 4K, and what the switchover means for your previous HBO Max subscription. HBO Max was already one of the best streaming services around, of course, so it may seem surprising that WBD decided to switch things up only three years after the platform's 2020 launch. When Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) made the decision to send HBO Max into an early retirement, the new-look Max arrived to take its place, and it’s been available to US subscribers since May 2023. There’s a new streaming service in town and its name is Max. Ficus carica and its symbiotic wasp have even been introduced into California, including male and female trees that grow wild in San Diego County. It may have been introduced by people to this region, either by seeds or cuttings. Goor (1965) stated that Ficus carica grew wild in the Holy Land thousands of years ago however, this doesn't necessarily mean that it was truly native (indigenous) to the Holy Land. It grows wild over a large area, including southern Europe and the Middle East. It is a dioecious species with separate male and female trees, and a symbiotic pollinator wasp ( Blastophaga psenes) that is propagated inside the fruits (syconia) of male trees called caprifigs. This tree was cultivated for its fruit more than 5,000 years ago and is native to the region between the Mediterranean and Black Seas, sometimes referred to as the ancient region of Caria in Asia Minor. The fig species discussed by Goor is the common edible fig ( Ficus carica). Summary Of Which Figs Grew In The Middle EastĪ n excellent article entitled "The History of the Fig in the Holy Land from Ancient Times to the Present" was written by Asaph Goor in Economic Botany 19: 124-135 (1965). There is also a parthenocarpic variety of sycomore fig ( Ficus sycomorus) that bears ripe (edible), seedless fruit (syconia) without wasp pollination. According to some fig connoisseurs, pollination produces a more delicious fig with a superior nutty flavor due to the seeds. They are just two of the hundreds of parthenocarpic cultivars of Ficus carica. They develop sweet seedless fruits (syconia) without fig wasps. Let’s take a few moments to talk about hats, shall we? After all, hats are the subject of this holiday and are worn by millions of people around the world, so maybe we should take some time to learn more about them. Topic Lifestyle Interesting Facts About Hats If you are already confident on a bike and have some experience in skateparks or performing tricks and jumps then we would recommend choosing a mid-range bike, priced from £400 to £700, with a full Chromoly frame, fork, and bars. If you are planning on using the bike in rain or bad weather, we do strongly advise choosing a model with fully sealed bearings all round. You might find you’ll want to upgrade to something lighter sooner than you’d think. Components that are not suitable for your level of riding can wear or fail much sooner than expected. We recommend consulting our height charts from the link below to help you choose your perfect sized bike:Ĭhoosing the right level bike for your riding ability is important. Pro size and upwards are considered adult bikes and are usually offered up to a Pro XXXL or larger for very tall riders. Youth race bikes start from a Micro size for very young riders and offer a range of sizes through to expert XL. Race bikes feature 20-inch wheels on all models, but the components and frame are sized dependent on age and height. Adult freestyle bikes are sized on top tube length, a 18.5” top tube is extra small for younger teenagers who have just moved up to an adult bike, a 20” top tube is small, 20.5” a medium and anything over a 21” is considered large. Youth freestyle bikes are sized depending on the diameter of the wheel staring at 12” all the way through to 18”, at a 20” wheel the bike is considered an adult size. If you’re looking to set fast lap times or begin your competitive career on the track, a race bike is the right choice.Ĭhoosing the correct size BMX bike is very important, bikes that are too large will be cumbersome and hard to manoeuvre and bikes that are too small can feel cramped and hard to keep under control. These bikes are strong enough for smooth landings on race and pump tracks but will not take the abuse that a freestyle bike would in concrete skateparks. Typically, they are constructed from lightweight materials like aluminium and carbon fibre to keep the weight down and the rider at the front of the pack. Race bikes are designed specifically with the track in mind, they are nimble lightweight machines for putting down quick lap times. For riders looking to learn tricks and stunts, then a freestyle bike is the correct choice. This means that the bike can stand up to a certain amount of impacts and hard landings, but remember no bike is indestructible. They are constructed from strong, hard wearing materials and usually feature Steel or Chromoly frames. This could be because they have learned to associate these actions with pain Most pups will have a pain-based reaction when you touch that specific problem spot, and some will begin reacting to being touched anywhere (or even when you look as if you are going to touch them). Typical negative reactions include yelping, leaping, whining, licking your hand, pulling away, or even growling. If your dog reacts negatively to a touch that they would normally like (or not be bothered by), that reaction may be due to pain. Although sometimes the diagnosis is serious - liver failure or cancer, for example - not eating can also be a sign of pain from other less-alarming conditions. Loss of appetiteĪ dog’s refusal to eat, which can have many causes, will almost always result in a trip to the vet. You can’t appease a picky dog with dino nuggets like your toddler. If your dog is less energetic or less cheerful than usual, doesn’t engage in the activities they usually enjoy, acts restless, becomes unusually clingy, or stops socializing as much or as happily as they used to, they may be experiencing discomfort. Changes in behaviorĪny change can mean something is wrong. If you find that your dog is suddenly avoiding you or other things they previously enjoyed, it’s time to look into what’s going on. Most dogs are not obvious about it, but there are many behavioral signs of pain that you can look out for. The way Bugsy was acting should have told me that he was hurting. The veterinarian determined that he had a partial tear in his anterior cruciate ligament, or ACL (a knee ligament) and was probably in considerable pain. When Bugsy remained grumpy after the foster puppy left, we suspected that something was wrong. We figured that when she left, he would stop being sulky and return to his usual upbeat, playful self. He stopped playing in the snow with her and would go to his bed rather than lie next to her on the rug. Then he changed, tiring of her quickly and often avoiding her, even growling if she approached him while he was on his bed. Things that make it more likely for a dog to want to go to he bathroom are: just waking up, playing, eating, going for a walk. Then if she doesn't want to go, I say it and hope it's formed an association in her head. I also made it a point to say, 'Go Potty' while she's peeing. Eventually, she'll veer off and pee, then I give her a 'Good Girl' and we go straight in. She'll try to sit and stare at me, but if I walk off and call her to me she'll walk over. I sometimes have to walk her around the yard for 10-15 minutes before she goes. I'll also drag her out of bed in the morning whether she wants to go or not. I want to see her go potty even before putting her to bed. However, I make it a point to go out with her at night and walk her around. This is especially likely if it's cold out and she doesn't want to go out. I have a crate that I put my dog in at night while I'm asleep, because as well housebroken as she is, she'll still try to go in the house sometimes. Color is a secondary identifier for the cryptocrystalline minerals, although it is a primary identifier for the macrocrystalline varieties. Varieties (according to microstructure) Īlthough many of the varietal names historically arose from the color of the mineral, current scientific naming schemes refer primarily to the microstructure of the mineral. However, doubly terminated crystals do occur where they develop freely without attachment, for instance, within gypsum. The crystals are attached at one end to the enclosing rock, and only one termination pyramid is present. Well-formed crystals typically form as a druse (a layer of crystals lining a void), of which quartz geodes are particularly fine examples. In nature quartz crystals are often twinned (with twin right-handed and left-handed quartz crystals), distorted, or so intergrown with adjacent crystals of quartz or other minerals as to only show part of this shape, or to lack obvious crystal faces altogether and appear massive. The ideal crystal shape is a six-sided prism terminating with six-sided pyramids at each end. Quartz belongs to the trigonal crystal system at room temperature, and to the hexagonal crystal system above 573 ☌ (846 K 1,063 ☏). Today, the term rock crystal is sometimes used as an alternative name for transparent coarsely crystalline quartz. The Ancient Greeks referred to quartz as κρύσταλλος ( krustallos) derived from the Ancient Greek κρύος ( kruos) meaning "icy cold", because some philosophers (including Theophrastus) understood that the mineral to be a form of supercooled ice. The word "quartz" is derived from the German word "Quarz", which had the same form in the first half of the 14th century in Middle High German and in East Central German and which came from the Polish dialect term kwardy, which corresponds to the Czech term tvrdý ("hard"). Quartz is the mineral defining the value of 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness, a qualitative scratch method for determining the hardness of a material to abrasion. Since antiquity, varieties of quartz have been the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hardstone carvings, especially in Eurasia. There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are classified as gemstones. Since the transformation is accompanied by a significant change in volume, it can easily induce microfracturing of ceramics or rocks passing through this temperature threshold. The transformation from α-quartz to β-quartz takes place abruptly at 573 ☌ (846 K 1,063 ☏). Quartz exists in two forms, the normal α-quartz and the high-temperature β-quartz, both of which are chiral. Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in Earth's continental crust, behind feldspar. The atoms are linked in a continuous framework of SiO 4 silicon–oxygen tetrahedra, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedra, giving an overall chemical formula of SiO 2.
